I know that the message "file not found " in French is "Fichier non trouvé"

But is non trouvé used for anything not found in a search? If there is a list of names and we want to search a specific name, if thats not found will the message be "Nom non trouvé"? Or anything for that matter that we search xyz from a list and its not present , would the message be "xyz non trouvé"? Any help would be really appreciated :)

(another option : "recherche infructueuse" )

Yes, but since "nom non trouvé" will not sound very nice (repetition of sound "non"), you may find instead "nom introuvable"

J'aime bien "recherche infructueuse". Ou "votre recherche n'a donné aucun résultat". Ou "votre recherche n'a pas de résultat". Ou "Désolé, aucun objet ne correspond à vos critères de recherche".

    Hi,
Yes, and "introuvable" works in every computer context.
Besides it is more elegant than "non trouvé"
    And it is short.
