Hi,
in this sentence: "We also told you how different life is in that country and not that many people get to go there.", I could't understand the bold part, even though I know each word separately. Could you help me? It was taken off from an Aussie TV program, an they were speaking about North Korea.
Thank you.

it means "we also told you how different life is in that country and very few people get to go there."

"not that many" is the opposite of "many"
"not that" is a modifier that indicates that something is below the level of something else. Example, "He can't win that race. He's a good driver, but he's not that good." This means that his level of skill is good, but not good enough to win the race."

    Hi apblopes,

From the context, I would say that:
"... not that many people get to go there."
    could be reformulated as:
"... not many people are permitted/allowed/have the opportunity to go there."

    Hope that helps! :)
