I am not sure if the two words are appropriate in the following sentences. What do you think?


Your note card for quotation and paraphrasing will help you not only to create a rough outline, but also to refine the rough outline for your research paper.

    I think "rough" sounds OK here although I often hear "rough draft" rather than "rough outline". I also suggest that you pluralize "note card". It's pretty hard to imagine anybody writing a whole paper with the material from one note card. :)
