What does this mean exaclty?

"O trabalho ja esta pronto."

The work starts soon??

    Pronto may mean "ready", as in that case.

    Another example: "Estou pronto." (I'm ready)

    Also, I can't really think of any time where pronto would mean "soon" in portuguese.

    Thank you for all explanations. By the way, I found that 'pronto' means 'soon' on babel fish translation site. I guess it cannot be trusted in 100%.
