Hello everyone,
Could somebody explain to me the end of the following sentence, which is extracted from The Economist:

Verizon Wireless will become aligned with other countries after the introduction of 4G, a forthcoming technology, bringing global economies of scale to its American operations.

I wonder what 'of scale' applies to, and what 'bringing economies to its American operations' could mean . Either I am very tired or it is time for me to start learning a different language... :D

Thanks in advance.

Thanks bibliolept, so it means it has allowed its American operations to save a lot of money in the process. Have I got it right now then?
