Hello All!

I am replying an email, mentioning that completing an assignment took me three hours. Below are the two options:

1. Completing the assignment took me three hours, of which one I spent carrying out the research.

2. Completing the assignment took me three hours, of which I spent one carrying out the research.

I would gor for number 1 but am not 100% sure... Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance for your replies!

The second sentence looks better to me. It would probably be helpful to include the noun "hour" after "one": ..., of which I spent one hour carrying out the research.

The second one looks better to me too. I think it could also be possible:

....., one of which I spent carrying out...

A minor edit would make your first sentence work:

1a. Completing the assignment took me three hours, of which one was spent carrying out the research.

I think the best option would be:
Completing the assignment took me three hours, one of which I spent carrying out the research.
