I'm new and I would like to know if someone can help me. I want to know the meaning/traduction of the word "off-farm". The background is the agriculture sector and the sentence is the following:

"The reform did not provide any benefits to small farmers (minifundistas), many of whom depend on off-farm work"

"Off farm work" probably means the farmers have to have jobs other than just farming to support themselves. ie, They have to go to town and work in a factory or something just to be able to live. The reforms did nothing to help people in this situation.
