I'm trying to translate a line from an essay I am writing on the French Declaration des droits de l'homme et du citoyen (1789), but I'm stuck on how to translate the word 'officeholding' (as in the ability to become a deputy in the National Assembly, or to hold a more minor role in some form of governance). This is the entire sentence:

"Civil rights guaranteed equal treatment before the law in matters concerning marriage, property and inheritance; those who enjoyed political rights, on the other hand, were accorded the guarantee of equal participation in voting, officeholding and other aspects of political life."

".... acquis les droits de participation égale au suffrage, à officeholding et aux autres ...".

Thanks in advance for your help! :)
