on a paper or on paper?

Hi! I think that the correct form of writting the spanish "en un papel" is "on paper" if you use it in the context of a phrase but I would like to know if it is possible to write it as "on a paper" when this is the entire prhase? Thank you.

If you are referring to one sheet of paper, say "on a sheet of paper."
If you are referring to the material, say "on paper." :)
