Are "From having India on the mat and to almost being pinned out themselves" idioms?
I tried to google "have someone on the mat" but couldn't find the meaning!

    It's a wrestling term and refers to getting the other person down on the ground (on the wrestling mat) and therefore at a disadvantage.

    It is a wrestling metaphor - in this sport the participant loses if the opponent manages to hold him unable to move on the mat (the playing surface). Sri Lanka were in a winning position.
