Hello:

Here were ten kids sitting in a line. I gave a ball to the first kid, then the 1st kid passed the ball to the 2nd kid, then the 2nd kid passed the ball to the 3rd kid, and so on.

I want to describe what the kids were doing there, can I say:
The kids were passing the ball one next to another.

Thanks.

The are many answers; you could say 'the kids were passing the ball from one to the next one', but to be clearer I would say 'the kids were passing the ball down/along the line'. 'From one to another' suggests a random order.
