I would like to know if anyone can give me the translation in English for the 'technical' French terms 'opérationnel et fonctionnel?' For example in the phrase, 'j'ai occupé des postes opérationnel et fonctionnel,' I can't seem to get a good English translation. Please help!!
    Thanks in advance,

I would suggest : "managerial and operative"
"I held managerial and operative jobs"
    Hope it helps!

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a good possibility.
What do you think of, 'operations and onsite management' (operationnel) and organisational management (fonctionnel)?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I searched for "fonctionalité" in the dictionnary earlier, and it sait "functionality" or "practicality", but I'm not sure that's the best...

J'eviterais d'utiliser ''operations and onsite management' ou 'operative', je mettrais seulement 'operations' ou 'operational' (par exemple, I held operational positions).

I have wondered about these two terms for years.
As an American, I don't think that "operative" and "functional" mean anything at all in a business sense in US English.
So I found this on the web:

So how about translating "opérationnel vs. fonctionnel" as "essential vs. nonessential functions" or "essential vs. support functions"?
Or even "production" vs. "support functions"...

This is an interesting discussion. I am working on questions for interviews and have the question:
We cannot consider that sales, purchasing ... are "production" in English as "production" usually refers to factory roles.
It would seem that Carnesecchi's suggestion works best:
"Are you better in operative or support positions?"
