optimal or optimum experimental conditions

Hi all :),
is there any difference between optimal and optimum experimental conditions?
I mean, the conditions which let us reach the best result (reliable, reprodicible, ecc)
This is my context:
Our purpose was a search for the optimal / optimum experimental conditions for XXX detection in human serum.

Thank you!

The Oxford Advanced English Learner's Dictionary says there isn't any difference in meaning.
1 (also optimal) the best possible; producing the best possible results
    optimum growth
    the optimum use of resources
the optimum conditions for effective learning
I guess you can use either then. :)
