Oracy in education refers to listening and speaking and precedes literacy. The term is not included on Wordreferences searches nor could I find a forum that discusses it. I teach in a dual language setting (Spanish/English) where the emphasis is on oracy before literacy for language acquisition and we are struggling to find a specific term for oracy in Spanish. We have been describing it as "competencias del lenguaje oral". Any ideas of specific terms we could use? Thank you in advance

If Oracy and Oratory have the same mean then Oratoria is the Spanish term that you are looking for.

Oratory relates to the art of public speaking; whereas Oracy is the ability to comprehend and use spoken language appropriately.

Creo que oralidad -o también competencia lingüística, competencia oral o, en menor medida, competencia comunicativa podrían funcionar para traducir ese "oracy" en el contexto planteado por el OP; pej. "oralidad [competencia oral/lingüística] y lectoescritura" para "oracy & literacy".

oralidad es un buen concepto, que comúnmente refiere a las etapas tempranas del aprendizaje/educación de niños.
Imagino que podría ser una posibilidad, aunque no estoy seguro. Saludos

Según wikipedia: "The term oracy was coined by Andrew Wilkinson, a British researcher and educator, in the 1960s. This word is formed by analogy from literacy and numeracy. The purpose is to draw attention to the neglect of oral skills in education."
Si el término fue inventado hace 60 años, habría que ver cómo fue traducido al español (si lo fue alguna vez). Si "oracy" es equivalente a "oral skills", entonces, la propuesta de oralidad o "competencia del lenguaje hablado" me parece correcta. Creo que es lo que se usa en la enseñanza de segundas lenguas. Lengua oral, oralidad, audiocomprensión, expresión oral...
