Hi, does anyone have any information on the definition or etymology of orange-horse?

The context is "men being so cocksure and orange-horse" about all women being their panty-dropping playground". The quotation is from the novel 'Daniel Martin' by John Fowles.

  • I think it might be a reference to being stimulated. Men are so cocksure and excited about women being their panty dropping playground.

Just like cocksure really isn't a word, maybe orange-horse could be interpreted using the whole sentence as reference.

Orange is listed in the Penguin Dictionary of Historical Slang as a term for the female pudendum. It is dated to the Restoration period.

That's a very cocksure statement to make. :D
Cocksure gets a separate entry in the Oxford Concise Dictionary and in the Collins English Dictionary. In Chambers English Dictionary it is given as a derivative of cock.

I wonder if it is anything to do with orange horses in the Tarot? I gather that horses represent maleness and sexuality and that orange signifies energy.

EDIT: It looks like an orange stallion represents something along the lines of aggressive male sexuality in Jungian dream analysis.
