When she was young, your grandmother dreamt of taking orders.

This is the example given. However in French "songer à", in this context of weighing possibilities, means "to consider". To "dream of" is to be translated by "rêver de".
Therefore the right translation of the example given should be either :
Quand elle était jeune, ta grand-mère a songé aux ordres --> When she was young, your grandmother considered taking orders.
Quand elle était jeune, ta grand-mère rêvait des ordres --> When she was young, your grandmother dreamt of taking orders.
