a. There are other practical methods to do this.
b. There are other, practical, methods to do this.

The sentences are mine.

Is there a difference in the meanings of those sentences?

I think there is a big difference. I think in (a) the speaker has in mind methods other than the method, or methods, that have already been mentioned and both the method, or methods, that have been mentioned and the ones the speaker is thinking about are all practical.

In (b) however, the method, or methods, that have been mentioned so far are not practical. The ways the speaker is alluding to are practical.

I think (a) corresponds to: Other methods that are practical.
and
(b) corresponds to: Other methods, which are practical.

Would you agree with that?

Many thanks.
