others vs the rest

Hi there everyone. Please do me a favour.


I’d like to discuss some environmental problems with ___ of the group.

A. others B. other C. the other D. the rest
The given answer is D (the rest). I have no problem with that.

But how about A (others)? Some say A is wrong because "of the group" implies "the rest" is the only choice.

I would appreciate it if you could give me an explanation.

    It would work, I think, as "with the others of the group" which would imply that you'd already discussed it with at least one of them, but I don't think (A) is a natural answer as it stands.
