I'm having trouble translating the phrase "out of childish logic"
Context: Out of childish logic, the little boys opened the windows so as to not break the glass panes. (I'm writing a summary for a chapter from Le petit Nicolas et les copains)
My attempt: Par logique puérile, les petits garçons ont ouvert les fenêtres pour ne pas casser les vitres.

Oui, j'avais compris merci ; ma question portait sur l'expression : 'TO logic-out', qui aurait mérité que j'ouvre un autre fil effectivement. Je l'ai entendu dans une conférence 'Carta' (UCLA TV), mais il me serait assez difficile de retrouver laquelle maintenant.

"To logic out" n'existe pas dans les dictionnaires, et serait effectivement construit sur le modèle de "to figure out".

A partir de là, 2 hypothèses:

1) soit il s'agit d'une facilité, voire même d'une erreur de langage qui ne devrait pas exister parce que les auteurs auraient dû utiliser "figure out"

2) soit il s'agit d'un néologisme inventé pour pour mieux exprimer une nuance que "figure out" n'exprime pas ou exprime mal. Dans ce cas, on pourrait imaginer, et seuls des anglophones de première langue peuvent dire si celà est possible:
- que "figure out" signifierait "résoudre par une réflexion approfondie un problème relativement complexe"
- que "logic out" est inventé pour exprimer l'idée suivante: " à partir d'une constatation évidente, déduire immédiatement que "

Sinon, il a pu juste oublier le mot 'of' après 'out' :

Ça nous ramènerait au 1er cas explicité par :

Quid de : 'to logic this out' (Est-ce correct?)
Et, sur un autre fil, j'avais lu que d'ajouter un tiret (-) avait pour effet en Anglais de transformer un nom en adjectif... N'y aurait-il pas une piste de ce côté là?

Autrement, en tirant par les cheveux, il pourrait avoir omis '-[put]', sachant qu'existent :

Mais les emplois (isolés et douteux) qui suivent ne marchent pas car le 'TO' procède du verbe : to direct to, to correspond to, donc plus comme une préposition (je pense) ou alors indique la direction : from > to.

I find myself wondering at "childish logic". I think the intended meaning is probably "childlike logic", though "enfantin" covers both meanings in French.

On veut, en effet, simplement dire que si on trouve des restes humains à coté d'ossements animaux dont on connait la datation, en en déduit immédiatement l'âge des ossements humains sans faire de calculs compliqués.

L'auteur a eu la gentillesse de me répondre par e-mail:

« I'm using "logic" as a verb here, which is not the correct use of the word but communicates what I wanted it to-- i.e. that we use logic to reason out the age of fossils from the other fossils surrounding the ones we are interested in. It is an approach called biostratigraphy. No matter, however: after I gave that talk, a team of geologists determined using a variety of methods the age of the fossils to about 250,000 years old. »
