overcharge something

I have seen that we can overcharge someone for something, but can someone overcharge something? For example, would this sentence be right?

The waiter overcharged the bill.

Thank you!

Hullo Gwbook. No, I'm afraid not: you can only overcharge a person. You could say The waiter inflated the bill or, a bit more informally, ... padded the bill.

Well, you'd certainly be understood if you said that ~ but I'm not sure anyone would actually say it.
I (personally) would say You've overcharged us/me. It doesn't really matter where the overcharge is ~ only that it's happened:(
