Paddle (animal movement)

Can the verb remar be used to describe how an animal moves? For example could you say "El castor remó en el lago"? I'm working on translating some kindergarten vocabulary lists, so I'm afraid I don't have much context.

    Thanks! I had taken a look at the dictionary and that forum post, but wasn't sure if altear would be appropriate since the dictionary defined it as flapping wings specifically. Right now, I'm stuck between 'chapatear' and 'aletear'.

    You are translating English phrases to Spanish, I assume.
    I should have asked if this is a children's story in which a beaver is rowing a boat, which case "remar" fits.
