Reading a Rio Alma poem and I don't know this word. Here's the complete line:

Sa gitna ng alon, ang lupa ay buwan,
    Inaabang-abangan mo
    Paglilim sa kubyerto ng barko.
    Sumusungaw itong maaliwalas at pagas

First, a little correction on the third line:

    "Pagdilim sa kubyerta ng barko."

Pagas is an adjective that translates closest to dry, barren or empty in reference to land. It is commonly used in phrases such as "pagas na lupa" (dry, barren, empty land) or pagas na lupain (wasteland).
