A case that Mulder wants to investigate doesn't seem to Scully to be related to the paranormal. She:
- Does this have something to do with an X-File? I thought you only liked those, er, paranormal type cases. Am I missing something here?
The X-Files, TV series

It's not (paranormal) (type cases),
... but (paranormal type) (cases), that is, cases of the paranormal type
Correct?
Thank you.

If I were writing this down -- this type of thing is much more common in speech than in writing -- then I would use a hyphen: paranormal-type cases. And yes, your interpretation is correct; compare "Asian-style salad."
