paraphrase for "setting up a football match with friends"

Senior Member
is there any other way to say "I once set up a football match with my friends"? This sentence is way too long and it sounds so awkward. I can think of something with "schedule" and maybe "date" (not sure if it's applicable here) but the structure is still the same. Can anyone suggest me a more natural wording?
