Hi Everyone,

When a large group of people at a meeting is divided up into smaller groups for discussion, what do you call that smaller group? Is it a partnership, a team, or just a small group? I appreciate your reply in advance.

"Small group" is fine; you might also consider "breakout group," which has the flavor of business jargon, or even "discussion group." "Partnership" is too heavyweight -- it suggests something more longstanding than an ad hoc division for the purposes of a single meeting. "Team" would be more acceptable, but could feel a bit forced depending on phrasing. That said, I wouldn't wince at all over someone saying "Okay everyone, let's break into three- or four-person teams for discussion."
