pass out

Here is my quick question,

Can the expression "pass out" be used to mean something like
"falling asleep instantly" due to, for example, extreme fatigue or long hours of work"?

For instance, does a sentence like this make sense?

"He just passed out in bed after coming from work"

Or is the phrase always associated with drinking?

I think you can use it but I would use it with some sort of context: He was so tired from working all day that he just passed out as soon as his head hit the pillow.
