Past Simple or Past continuous

Hello. Yesterday I was at my brothers and he was translating a text for the whole day (translated a text for a whole day) . Today he is here where I live and shows me a text. What do i ask
1. Is this the text you were translating yesterday ? this the text you translated yesterday?

Or are they both correct? I mean the past continuous suggests a longer action in progress and the past simple focuses on the fact that the action was complete ?

Both are correct, assuming the translation is now finished. If it’s not, only 1 can be used. In 2 you’d need to say, for example, “that you started translating yesterday”.
