paw pad

I am writing a document for a volunteer organization that explains (in Spanish for LEP pet caretakers) how to clip cat claws safely. I cannot figure out how to translate correctly the part of the paw which is referred to as the pad.

Por ejemplo, una oración podría ser, "El dedo índice presiona a [the pads of the paw/the paw pad/etc., etc.] por abajo y establece la pata mientras que el dedo pulgar presiona al centro de la pata por arriba para que salga la uña más cerca al dedo pulgar."

Si alguien me pudiera dar mejor sugerencia de cómo explicar este proceso de aforzar a salir la uña en adición a alguna sugerencia de cómo se debe traducir correctamente esa parte ("the pad") de la pata del gato, le agradecería mucho.

Yo diría "almohadilla" pero no sé si es tecnicamente corresto. ¿Algún veterinario?

I just found this in another thread on the same topic which I did not originally see before I wrote my thread. If anyone is a vet and can confirm either of these as words that a veterinarian would commonly use, I would greatly appreciate them weighing in on the subject. Thanks. Saludos a todos.
