Greetings,

I would appreciate a native speaker differentiating between the use of "pedir" and "preguntar por".

I have recently heard native Spanish speakers translating the English "ask for directions" as "preguntar por direcciones". I would have thought that when you are requesting something, it would be pedir; preguntar is only for questions, and in neither case is the proposition por required.

What says the forum?

Thanks!

G.

Efectivamente debe ser pedir instrucciones. :tick:
Yo nunca preguntaría instrucciones por ejemplo para llegar a XX. :cross:

Y tienes razón una persona pregunta (refiriéndose a questions).

I'm so sorry but on this side of the pond I'd say (and everybody too)...
    • Bájate del coche y pregunta por esa dirección ...;)
