    A ver pongo un poquito más:
    "There are some “less-threatening” ways to do these searches by decrypting data elements one by one in memory to see if there is a match and then deleting the element before moving on to the next. There is generally more of a performance hit in these types of models. Besides, the whole reason for encrypting an entire column is generally to prevent all of the values from being exposed in cleartext."

    I'll try to interpret this into plain English, and then the translators can have fun with it.

    Using this decryption method requires more computer resources [ cpu time] and is often slower [than other methods].

    Llego tardísimo a este hilo, pero mejor tarde que nunca:

    Performance hit: a drop in performance. In computers, a performance hit means something has caused the system to run slower.

    Podríamos decir "una merma en el desempeño/rendimiento" (yo prefiero "desempeño" para no confundir las cosas con "throughput", pero hay gente a la que le gusta traducir "performance" como "rendimiento").
