Hi guys,

is کبوتر حرم a known expression? I've heard it in a song and couldn't make sense of it. I looked it up and there are books, and blogs, and music videos, and people on Facebook called like that. I have a feeling it is something religious.

    From Hayyim dictionary.

"کبوتر حرم A pigeon of Mecca which it is forbidden to kill."

Most religious shrines in Iran have pidgins, some even provide pidgin lofts for them and feeding them is seen as a religious act. These are called کبوتر حرم/کبوترامامزاده/shrine doves or pidgins. حرم (pronounced: haram) mainly refers to the shrine itself, e.g. ‏حرم ‏امام رضا and of course harming these birds is seen as sinful)
