What is the etymology of Persian kākā “slave, elder brother”? Is it borrowed from an Indo-Aryan language?
There is a similar word used in Indo-Aryan languages for an older male relative, e.g. Hindi kākā “father’s younger brother, a term of address for elder brother”. Turner derives the Indo-Aryan words from Dravidian:
2998 *kākka 'senior male relative'. [← Drav.: Kan. kakka 'uncle', Tel. kakka 'daddy', Mal. kākke 'mother's brother']
Thank you.
