Persian, Urdu: would-be

Hi,

My question has risen while reading news in English about the on-going Iranian parliamentary election.

'Many would-be candidates to the (Iranian) Parliament were disqualified.'

What would be the right way to say 'a would-be candidate' i.e. a politician desiring to stand for elections but not able or being allowed to do so?

My weak take is شدنی but that's all I could come up with. Or, to the contrary, wouldn't 'wold-be' be o_Oناشدنی ?

    Persian perspective:
شدنی, as I am sure you know, means 'possible' with future in mind.

I can't think of a single word for this, but you can get around it by saying کاندید مردود/kândide mardud "failed candidate" and similar terms.

This is a challenging one, a single word option would have to be based on بودن/To be, e.g. می‌بوده/mibudé (had s/he passed the qualifying round s/he would have been a candidate). Of course می‌بوده/mibudé doesn't exist so let's see what others think.

Would the following translation be appropriate in your opinion?

ایرانی پارلمان/پارلمینٹ (میں نشست) کے خواہاں متعدد امیدواران نااہل قرار دے دیے گئے
