Hi,
My question has risen while reading news in English about the on-going Iranian parliamentary election.
'Many would-be candidates to the (Iranian) Parliament were disqualified.'
What would be the right way to say 'a would-be candidate' i.e. a politician desiring to stand for elections but not able or being allowed to do so?
My weak take is شدنی but that's all I could come up with. Or, to the contrary, wouldn't 'wold-be' be
