What do you say when you can't use your phone because it is not within an area with cellular network coverage or it is faulty?

Can I say such sentences?

-Sorry I couldn't call you because my phone had lost signal. (is the Past Perfect necessary?)
-Sorry I couldn't call you because my phone was out of service.
-Sorry I couldn't call you because there was no network coverage.

or
-something is wrong with my phone, it keeps losing signal.
-something is wrong with my phone, it keeps dropping signal.
-something is wrong with my phone, it can't connect to the network.
