Pick up speed

Hi,

"After braking, the driver should accelerate again and pick up speed to about 50 km/h."

In a simulated driving, the drivers should brake once they notice an obstacle. Then they should pick up the speed. Is the use of "pick up speed" correct in the above sentence?

    Or: … should pick up speed again to about 50 km/h.

    In other words you can say either accelerate or pick up speed, but not both.
