Hi all!

I just wanted to know if pied-a-terre is a really famous expression in English since it is French?

Thank you,

In English a pied-a-terre refers to a small apartment, house, or room kept for occasional use.

I AM French, so thank you Pete, but I remember perfectly how to spell it... though I don't have accents on my keyboard.
Also, what I'm interested about is 'Would many people know and understand this expression?'.

I've seen this expression used quite a bit in realtors' ads for properties in California.

I do not believe it to be a common term in America (except maybe in certain regions and/or among certain groups of people), so I would venture a guess of no, not many people would know what it means.
