Pig trap - Ball valves

Dear all,

Can someone tell what this terms mean: pig trap/ ball (and/or chek, globe) valves. The context is about construction of pipelines.

    I did not know what a pig trap was in this sense, so I googled it. Here is what I found:

    It seems that a 'pig' in this sense is a canister that can be put into a pipe for cleaning and/or transport and that the 'pig trap' is a mechanism for depressurizing a section of the pipe for inserting/removing the 'pig'.

    A ball valve is just a type of shut-off valve. A diagram can be viewed here (result of a google search):

    A check valve is any one-way valve, that allows flow in one direction and not the other.
