Wait for confirmation because I don't know your expression, but if it deals with the idea of wasting something it could be : "donner de la confiture aux cochons"

Saucisses en feuilleté... that one is "it"...
"Pigs in blankets" are small cocktail sausages that you wrap in bacon (basically pork wrapped in a pork blanket). A "saucisse en feuilleté" is a "sausage roll". In England, anyhow.
