Hi everybody
Please kindly tell me ''pitting the pathes of snow with grey'' in the following context, taken from ''1919'', "USA" by John Dos Passos, means the rain was making small grey holes in the snow.
The sky was lead color over wet streets full of authomobiles and a drizzly rain was pitting the patches of snow with grey.

Yes, the rain is 'piercing' holes in the snow so that the colour of the street/tarmac underneath shows through.
