play taekwondo

    My student wrote this in her self-introduction:

    I like playing taekwondo in my spare time. (As one of her hobbies)

    I wonder if the bold is okay.

    I suggest practising instead of playing. Taekwondo isn't a game, though it can be a sport.

    You might hear "doing" used informally.

    No. Taekwondo not something you 'play'. I would say 'I do taekwondo . . . '.
