pollute <air> less

    Is use of "air" in the following sentence correct grammatically and conceptually? If it is not, kindly suggest ways to make it clearer.

    air less or less air??!!which?

    "Turbines pollute the air less when . . . " is better.

    Please can you clarify your intended meaning? Do the turbines: i) pollute a lesser volume of air, or; ii) pollute the same volume of air but to a lesser degree?
