No context I'm afraid - it's from a list of colloquial expressions containing colours.

Does anyone know whether poner verde a sus espaldas = to speak very badly about someone?

    Thanks in advance

I forgot to say that "poner verde a alguien" is a colloquial expression, used a lot in Spain.
