pop out and line out

1. Matsui pops out to third baseman Alex gordon. Two out.
2. Shelly Duncan lines out to third baseman Alex Gordon. Three out.

Would you explain "pops an lines out" in a few words? Thanks.

A "pop-up" is a play in which the ball is hit high up into the air, although usually not far from the place where the batter is standing ... it hangs there at the top of its slow arc ... and then falls, usually into the waiting mitt of a fielder, who had sufficient time to get underneath it. When the ball is caught by a fielder, the batter is out -- so he "popped out"

A "line drive" is a hit in which the ball goes straight out from the batter , parallel to the ground. It is harder to catch -- but if a fielder does catch it, the batter is out, so he "lined out".
