pot d'encastrement

Hello,

Does anybody know what this is with regards to lighting? Is it just light housing?? Or is there a more specific technical term in English? I'm a bit out of my depth here!

This is most probably a flush mounted installation box.

Thanks for that. However, I think that's more to do with electrical stuff no? Fuse boxes and the like. Sorry to be so vague, I'm not sure of the technical terms.

Yup. That what a pot d'encastrement is, without further context (e.g. here).
Now, your picture refers to something that is designed to be flush-mounted - in some installation box...!
