And even though explicit theoretical formulation is still lacking, psychotherapeutic practice accepts our hypothesis in its stress on implicit reassurance, support, permissiveness, approval, acceptance, that is to say, the ultimate gratification of the deep-lying needs of the patient for safety, love, protection, respect, worth, etc.
(Motivation and Personality; A. H. Maslow)

Would you be so kind as to tell me whether it is possible to read 'its' as referring either to 'hypothesis' or 'practice'?

Thanks.

I think it refers to "practice". Psychotherapeutic practice accepts our hypothesis in the following areas: implicit reassurance, support etc.
