    That is a bit strange?
The preposition should probably be from, but you're missing around
... take the locket from around his neck.

    Men don't often wear lockets.
The article should be the, not a, unless he happens to be wearing several lockets!

Oh, yes, and the locket would be on a chain. I don't think that matters, though.

The man wearing lockets is ok, he is a Mayan man. Who would judge him? :)

    Thanks for your help!

Which preposition should better be used in this context?
to take a locket from/out of his neck

He might have "produced a locket from beneath his …" (shirt/top garment/whatever)
He might have "taken a locket from around his neck".

But he didn't take it "out of" his neck.

Just to clarify what panjandrum said,

    You should probably say:

...to take the locket from around her neck.

If you want it to be a man, and you mean a chain, not a locket, then you should say

...to take the chain from around his neck.

    * I suppose you could say that a man was wearing a locket, but he would normally be wearing the locket because he knew a woman who it belonged to, but she either left or died. (I know it's sad, but...)

I suspect now that I might have misused the word locket.
This locket belongs to a man. He is a Mayan prince and usig it he can open a door to the temple. The whole passage for you to understand the context:
Ueamak takes a locket from around his neck. The shape of the locket is quite unusual. Uemak sets it into an opening besides the stone plate covering the entrance to the building. The locket brings a secret gear into action and the plate starts moving aside.
