preserve/conserve their primitive lifestyle

< Previous | Next >

The Darwu people's isolation from the outside world has helped to preserve/conserve their primitive lifestyle and also allowed them to maintain their home as a self-sufficient paradise on the sea.

Do both preserve and conserve fit in the above? If not, could you tell me the reason in a few words? Thanks.

    Thanks, Dimcl, for your concern.
I guess preserve works in the context while conserve doesn't.
Yes, that's right. Often, "preserve" and "conserve" can be synonymous but in this case they are doing "something" which allows them to keep their lifestyle. Lifestyles are not "conserved" - they are "preserved".
