prevail [talking about alcoholism]

In talking about alcoholism:

This situation can't be allowed to prevail or I shalln't prevail

Would the use of "prevail" at the end suggest that this will kill me if I don't sort it out?

    I don't think "prevail" tells your reader enough to assume that you will die if you don't quit drinking. It would be easier to use plainer language for this.
