professor taking students on a trip

What would you call the professor who accompanies students on a trip? I'm drawing a complete blank.

    My understanding of a chaperon is that he/she is mainly a guardian of decorum. A hiking trip would be different than a social dance, so I would expect a different name. "Escort" sounds about right, but hopefully some more people with kids in school in the US and UK will share the word commonly used, to confirm or add more choices. Thanks!

    Not many professors accompany studens on trips, Susanna. I'd say the accompanying professor. I can't see a problem with that.

    If you mean that the professor was in some way in charge, or responsible for the students, I think that may need to be made explicit.
