Pronunciation: Pinyin "miu"

I used to think that pinyin "miu" (缪，谬, etc.) was pronounced "mi" + "u" but I just realized that it might rhyme with pinyin "xiu" (休息, etc.) instead. Would anyone know which of these pronunciations is common and correct?

"mi" + "u" is wrong pronunciation. "mi" + "又" is correct.

iu 是 双元音韵母 iou 的简写，作为标准拼音形式，代替 iou 而存在。
按照官方规则，不应拆成 mi + u。
但对我个人而言，即使读 mi + u，结果也和 m + iu 发音分不出区别。
